National Conference Assistant
Paige Cardinal is a nêhiyaw-iskwew and mother from Bigstone Cree Nation in Wabasca-Desmarais, Alberta located in Treaty 8 territory. She will be obtaining a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Native Studies with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies in 2018. She will also become a certified birthing doula in 2018. Her post-secondary goal is to obtain an after degree in Bachelor of Education (secondary school) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Interdisciplinary Studies degree thereafter.
Economic development is incredibly important to Paige, as she intends on moving back to her home community and reservation in the future. Her long-term goal is to work with the band administration and council to open a Cree language and cultural revitalization centre, an arts studio for Indigenous youth, as well as an Indigenous labor and birthing centre.
Paige is constantly working towards language and cultural revitalization, and feels that Cando does a great job at involving FNMI peoples and their traditions through out their events. She is happy to be stepping into the role as the National Conference Assistant again, as she was employed in this position during the summer of 2015 with Cando.
