Randi is an Anishinaabekwe and a member of Bloodvein Ojibway Nation in Manitoba. Randi is excited to join Cando as the CEDI Communications and Research Intern for summer 2018.
Originally planning on becoming an Interpreter in American Sign Language (ASL), Randi enrolled and completed her diploma in the Deaf Studies Program (DSP) at Red River College. Through her studies in DSP, Randi met many Deaf Indigenous people which sparked a troubling understanding of the lack of resources that support this unique form of intersectionality. Since then, Randi is now enrolled full-time with the University of Manitoba working towards her degree in a Bachelor of Arts doing a major in Native Studies and minor in Cultural Anthropology. It is her hopes that one day she will work alongside the Deaf and Indigenous communities to create and implement resources that encourage Deaf Indigenous individuals to rise up to become a flourishing group within Canada.
As a member of Cando’s CEDI team, Randi is committed to working effectively at both Cando and with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) in creating reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. She strongly believes that bridging the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous governments is a crucial step towards reconciliation.
